Can you buy Apoquel online without a vet prescription? ›

Can pet owners get Apoquel without a prescription? Apoquel is not available over the counter. You cannot buy Apoquel without presenting a valid prescription from your vet.

Antihistamines. Commonly used to manage mild allergy symptoms in dogs, antihistamines like diphenhydramine or cetirizine can help reduce itching and inflammation caused by allergic reactions. They are available over-the-counter but should be used under veterinary guidance to ensure proper dosage and safety.

To recap: Apoquel may work better for long-term solutions to pruritus, but Benadryl will be fine in a pinch until you can get something better.

This medication may be prescribed by an online vet (see Note above) and ordered through an online pharmacy. Apoquel is an oral tablet given daily to prevent the body from reacting to allergens.

Zyrtec has a slower onset and may take time to build up in the dog's system before providing relief. It's not ideal for acute symptoms. Your dog is not likely to experience any sort of withdrawal symptoms when she gets off of Apoquel, but the likelihood for her allergy symptoms to reappear is high within hours of stopping the Apoquel.

While waiting for cyclosporine to take effect, your veterinarian may recommend short-term treatment with Apoquel or steroids. Cyclosporine is a good option to try in dogs who haven't responded adequately to Apoquel. Cyclosporine has generic forms and is usually more affordable than Apoquel.

Oclacitinib (brand name Apoquel®) is an oral medication used to manage itching associated with allergic dermatitis (including atopy) in dogs at least 12 months of age.
