New stadium, new athletic center, a bunch of athletic upgrades (coaching, equipment, athletic budget, etc.) FAU is in an ideal financial situation of being able to collect and spend millions of dollars on athletics really fast. What would be really interesting is if schools in the AAC saw the writing on the wall and decided this "East Coast Conference" thing batted around by CUSA & SBC schools was legit and decided to embrace that concept and agree to align with those schools and form a truly solid East Coast Conference. Doubtful that'd ever happen.

bigbelly Bench Warmer Posts: 128 | Post: #29 It would be interesting to see if the remaining AAC schools choose, as a group, to initiate a golden parachute plan. That is, independently make their own arrangements for which conferences they're going to in 2023/2024 and not add ANYONE else to the AAC. Then when Cincy/Houston/UCF leave they collect their exit fees, spread the cash around between remaining colleges and conference administration severance packages, and say to each other, "See ya, it's been great competing against you and good luck in your next conference!" That may be the most fiscally responsible thing to do for the current AAC schools, which of course means it will never happen. (This post was last modified: 10-08-2021 03:20 PM by bigbelly.)

You're right. Stay at 8 members and distribute the cash. Move forward as a small conference. I hope this is what CUSA does if we lose members. There's no need to expand.

UTSAs so called arena has to be in the bottom 5 of those schools who are IA. It's one of the most hidius things Ive seen. Tulane and UTSA would be in a run off for the worst. And well FAUs arena Ive seen better DII arenas. Definitely, basically high school gyms. I’ve been to UTSA, it didn’t even seem like a college game to me. Not only that FAU doesn’t have much support, Good baseball program better than UTSA but South Florida doesn’t want them in the conference.
