Benefits from Matcha

Matcha is a traditional Japanese green tea that comes with many health benefits.

Cancer Prevention:Matcha contains antioxidants called catechins, which are not found in other foods. The catechin found in green tea, EGCg (epigallocatechin gallate) provides cancer-fighting properties. EGCg and other catechins counteract the effects of dangerous free radicals coming from chemicals, radiation, UV rays, which can all lead to cell and DNA damage.

Aids* in Weight Loss:I don’t want this benefit to be held with too much high regard, but there is research shown that consuming matcha can help boost metabolism and burn fat.

Lowers LDL “Bad” Cholesterol:The catechin found in green tea, EGCg, also aids in lowering cholesterol levels.

FAQs

What is the healthiest way to consume matcha? ›

If you want to reap all the health benefits that come hand-in-hand with matcha green tea, the best way to drink matcha is with as little sugar and honey as possible. A little bit never hurts every once in a while, but making a habit of drinking real, organic matcha will help you feel great all day long.

What can I add to matcha to make it healthier? ›

Furthermore, while Ceremonial Grade matcha is delightfully perfect in its own right, if you're on a busy schedule and have time for only one health-amplifying drink each day, consider adding a few sprigs of fresh rosemary, sage, thyme, cilantro and/or mint to your daily matcha.

What to mix with matcha for weight loss? ›

Yes, matcha tea can be combined with other ingredients to enhance its weight loss effects. For example, adding a splash of lemon juice can increase the tea's antioxidant absorption, while combining it with coconut milk or almond milk can provide a satisfying and low-calorie beverage option.

What can you not mix with matcha? ›

Good matcha changes everything, of course. Please don't put milk in your good matcha, especially if you're drinking it for health reasons.

Is it OK to eat matcha everyday? ›

While you can drink matcha daily, it is high in caffeine and may contain traces of pesticides and other chemicals. The beneficial compounds it contains, such as catechins, may be harmful in high quantities. It's best to consume matcha in moderation, for instance, 1–2 cups of tea per day or up to 2 teaspoons of matcha.

Why should you not drink matcha on an empty stomach? ›

Consuming matcha green tea on an empty stomach can temporarily raise stomach acid levels in our bodies and upset our stomach lining. Despite higher quality matcha powder having less astringent tannins, we all react differently to the same amount of exposure.

Is matcha good for weight loss? ›

It is generally recommended to drink 1 to 2 cups of matcha tea per day for weight loss. This is because matcha tea contains caffeine and EGCG, which work together to boost metabolism and promote fat burning. Keep in mind that matcha tea is part of a balanced diet.

What are the pros and cons of drinking matcha? ›

There's a myriad of health and wellness benefits to matcha but ultimately, as a tea it is still a caffeinated beverage and naturally, overconsumption can affect moods, heart health and concentration – similar to that of coffee overdose.

Is matcha better with cold or hot water? ›

We find that the optimal temperature for matcha is roughly 175f / 80c. You can go cooler than that, but you really can't go hotter than that. An easy way get 175 quickly: boil your filtered water, and pour whatever amount you think you'll use for the matcha (ie not much) into a small pitcher or cup.

What is a good combination with matcha? ›

Coconut's sweet, tropical flavor pairs excellently with matcha, adding a layer of richness. Coconut milk or cream can be used in matcha lattes and smoothies, while shredded coconut makes a great addition to matcha energy balls or macarons.

What type of matcha is best for weight loss? ›

What is the healthiest way to drink matcha powder? ›

  1. Gently warm milk in small pot. Do not let it boil.
  2. Put matcha in your favorite mug. Whisk in 1/3 cup of warm milk vigorously until powder is dissolved and beverage becomes frothy. Add honey if desired.
  3. Pour in the rest of the milk and whisk vigorously (be careful!).
  4. Enjoy!

What sweetener tastes best with matcha? ›

Non-flavored sweeteners like sugar and agave syrup will preserve matcha's natural flavor while sweeteners like honey and chocolate will mask it well.

What is the correct way to drink matcha tea? ›

Add matcha tea powder to a large glass, then add your milk or water. If adding sugar, add it here, too. Using your hand frother, whisk/froth for about 15 seconds, until smooth and no clumps remain. Add in ice cubes and enjoy!

How to get the most benefits from matcha? ›

Matcha is high in caffeine (even more than coffee and other green or black tea!) so consume it wisely. Matcha is much better without adding dairy-based milk because that appears to lower its antioxidant benefits.

Is Matcha powder better with water or milk? ›

If you are drinking Matcha for health reasons, we suggest drinking Matcha with just hot or cold water for maximum absorption of nutrients. How to make it with just water? Whisk or shake (in our Tea Shaker) to combine and enjoy!
